While Mr. Olympia is still a highly-touted event, it was once even more mainstream than it is today. The names on the following list were a part of the “Golden Era” of bodybuilding history and inspired most of the modern figures in the competition today. 1. Sergio Oliva
“The Myth” Sergio Oliva was a 3x Mr. Olympia champion. He defeated the famous Arnold Schwarzenegger during 1967, 1968, and 1969 competitions. Unfortunately, Oliva passed away in 2012.
2. Arnold Schwarzenegger
Arnold is the most famous bodybuilder in history. What hasn’t he done in his illustrious career? He doesn’t look terrible in his older years. He was called “Austrian Oak” during his bodybuilding days.
3. Larry Scott
Larry Scott was the first and second Mr. Olympia winner. He was still in impressive shape up until he died in 2014. He earned the monikers “The Legend” and “The Golden Boy.” There’s no doubting that his legendary looks will remain a key part of bodybuilding history.
4. Franco Columbu
One of the closest friends of Arnold, Franco often used to train with Arnold before competitions. The two had a number of legendary posedowns and remain friends until this very day. He was the shortest competitor to ever win the competition only standing at 5’4.
5. Frank Zane
“The Father of Aesthetics” Frank Zane is a three-time Mr. Olympia champion. He also earned the moniker “The Chemist” due to his degree in chemistry and his constant pushing of supplementing with amino acids.
